vista from pc to external drive boot camp? How do i make boot camp recognize an external drive with windows on it

I have had a PC all my life and recently switched to a Mac book Pro. i love it, but there are still some programs on the PC that i like to use. i was told i could take my hard drive out of the PC and put it into an external case, plug it into my mac and use boot camp to occasionally run windows. i have tried the above and can not get boot camp to recognize the drive. can anyone help please?
